If the vet did not give you anything to put around him then it probably won’t hurt him to lick it my cat had a sore and she licked it to but the vet said that it would not hurt that would help it to heal faster. Just watch the sore and make sure that it does not get worse.
Buy one of those cones, to put over his neck. The vet should’ve gave you one. I know he’s not gonna like it, but it will stop him from licking.
Where on his body is the sore? Depending on where it is, you could put a baby’s onsie on him, or get an Elizabethan ("lampshade") collar from a local pet store or a veterinarian.
you need to get a buster collar from your vet, then he wont lick it off
Actually, most ointments made for cats and dogs are made to be licked. As the cat is licking, it is really putting the medication deeper into the sore.
