How can I make my cat accept his new bed?
Just to keep things fair, I will report as abuse any point seeker or *blah* answers.
My problem is, that I have to find a way to make my cat accept its brand new bed. He’s and adult cat and have habits of his own. The first time he saw the bed, fled away scared. ![]()
Does someone has gone through this? Any working idea?
Thanks in advance!

It is a new item and it’s normal he is afraid of it. Give it time, and rub it down with a t-shirt or towel so it has the scent of home on it. He can smell the other scents on it that can scare them off too.
Like I said leave it where it is, I would save give it a few months to discover it is cozy and warm. Once he figures out he can snuggle up to it and sleep I am sure he’ll love it.
Try a little cat nip rubbed on the edge, might lure him into it.
Put some cat toys on it. Place a treat on the bed. Positive reinforcement works, if you see him near it he gets a healthy cat treat. Same goes if he lays on it.
Hope something works. Don’t worry your cat will figure it out.
Where is he used to sleeping? If possible, take some fabric from there and put in the bed. That might attract him to the spot.
You can try putting some catnip in there to entice him. If he’s sleeping somehwhere you don’t want him to try putting something in the way so he can’t sleep there. Try placing the bed in a sunny spot or next to a heating vent, since kitties love warm places. If he is scared of it, don’t force him into it, let him explore it at his own pace, but in the end, some cats just don’t like to sleep in cat beds!
My cat loves to sleep on my clothes that I have taken off. So, take something that you have worn once and put it in the new bed. He may not like the smell of the new bed if it smells like foam or a from the store, it may frighten him.
If you take an old shirt or towel, and put it in the bed, she might get used to it.
My cat didn’t like her bed, and was always sleeping on a pile of clothes in my room so I took an old shirt and put it in the bed. After letting her sniff around in it for a while, she laid down in it, and was fine after that.
They tend not accept their new bed. I know from experience my cat always sprayed it and would go back to the spot it was used to sleeping at (usually near the pillows of my bed). But each cat is unique and I wish you the best and good luck.
the same thing happened to me, cats are very picky where they sleep but i used teats. also make it smell like her by putting one of her toys or blankets . it prolly doesn’t smell normal to her yet. it will take some time:)

Well, I do not believe you can MAKE a cat do something. They are quite (lovably) independent.
My cat sleeps anywhere but his own bed. The best I can do is leave it out for him.
Maybe try to put it somewhere fun? Like the window…top of a bookshelf…in a cubby hole…
