Suitcase? She starts crying.
So yeah, they know.

sure, my cats associate the carrier with going to the vet & avoid it like the plague and they act crazy with I get out my suitcases -- they know they'll be alone for a while

Those critters are smarter than you think. It may be the luggage. They recognize any changes.

Yes. Do you recognize what the word doctor is?
The cat carrier is like the word "doctor" to her.
It says doctor all over it.
She hates it. ><

Every cat I've had have seemed to know both.

I even bought a new carrier that was more like a bag because I had so much trouble getting my one cat in the hard carrier and he LOVES getting into bags. He had no interest in the carrier bag and still refuses to get in without (gentle) force.

My cats definitely know what the suitcase means. They start getting clingier as soon as I start packing and they always try to either pack themselves or stay in my way so I can't pack.

if you have used that cat carrier to take her to the vet or to transport her somewhere....yes she recognizes that cat carrier as something unpleasant. my cat runs for under the bed the minute i touch my cat carrier. shes 11 and has only been transferred by carrier three times....she caught on quickly.

I stuggle getting my cat in the carrier .... everytime she gets in it she knows when she gets out a "man" (vet) will stick a thermomotor up her bottom.... poor little munchkin :)

And yes, your cat would know when you're going away .... when I pull my suitcase out, I have to make sure my cat's not packed too (she climbs in under my clothes and hides)... its like she says "take me, take me!"

Definitely yes. I have my carrier by the window in my bedroom with the door open. They love to curl up in it and sleep, but as soon as I put it on the bed, you can't find find the one who's going to the vet. They seem to know which one it is too. And when I get my suitcases out, they're right in the case so I can't pack.
