Cat Scratching Post Archives

Where can I get a wood scratching post?

My cat has this love affair with the door frames and stair case railings and pretty much anything wood. I was wondering if anyone knew where to get a good wood scratching post or a makeshift one?
Or if were to go out and get a plank of wood, what should I get?

first let me say,i don’t want to get her declawed unless its my only oppition to get her to stop,I will try anything.
I have tried lemon sented stuff and even rubbed a lemon pell around it.
I have moved things in front of her favorite area she just goes to another wall.
i do have a cat post in the kitchen where she scratches.
does anyone know of any spray’s i can make that she won’t like.
She knows she not alould to scratch there if she does it in front of you she will take off running, its cute how she acts but she needs to stop.
some people told me to clean it with bleach but she seems to like it ,doesnt scratch as much but she sits and smells it i am afraid it could hurt her if she tastes it.
This is the only area she scratches .

stop a cat clawing carpet?

My cat claws at the carpet in certain spots and is ruining it by tearing it to shreds. I have tried bitter apple spray but it didn’t work so well. I also have 2 of the cat scratching posts but she prefers the carpet. There are some sprays I saw in the petshop that contain methyl ketone but I am afraid to use it since it is carcinogen. Anybody have ideas other than declawing the cat which I believe is inhumane.

We got leather couches in our home about a year ago and, soon after, we noticed that our cats had scratched the ends of them. After scaring the cats away from the couches when they showed signs of this behavior, the problem was pretty much resolved. Generally, they now avoid these couches all together. The problem now is that my partner doesn’t trust the cats and wishes that I would put them outside. Because putting them outside is not an option and because we don’t want any other furniture ruined, I desperately need to reslove this problem. I’ve tried scratching posts (which they wouldn’t use), clipping their claws monthly, and catnip in areas away from furniture, but nothing was too effective. While scaring them with loud noises when they start to scratch does help, it doesn’t keep them from clawing a chair or other furniture pieces when I am not around. Please help; peace in our home depends on it.

We know about claw covers from Softpaws but this is an 8 year old outdoor cat that now has to be kept indoors fulltime and he is too much for us to handle in dealing with his paws – bites, claws and goes crazy. Anything to spray that won’t ruin carpet, furniture or keep house smelling funky? Or anything to attract him to the 4 or 5 different scratching posts, etc we’ve bought and he ignores. We can’t get rid of him or would do so. He’s been neutered and he also goes wacko if confined to one room, really tearing things up. This has been going on for a year.
