Living in apartment with roommate who also has a cat. I am at home hour and 1/2 getting ready for school and 2 hours before bed. My cat sleeps in my bed with me. I play with him for 15 minutes a day and scratch and cuddle for another 15. My roommate doesn’t stay at home all to much either (same amount as me) but maybe one or 2 nights a week he may stay an hour more to hang out or whatnot. One of 2 nights a week I will stay home for 2-3 hours just to relax and not go anywhere so then my cat can have some lap time. Sometimes I may stay home a little more often. He has a scratching post, some toys, edible plants, cat tree, and I leave animal planet on sometimes.
My current house has 4 people and at least 2 of us are usually home all the time and we have visitors every couple of days. The apartment will be quieter. I must add, I just got him last Saturday ( a week ago) so I don’t know him that well yet, but he seems to be a well adjusted cat who only needed the safe room for a few hours and isn’t shy and was comfortable in his new home after a day or 2.

I have 2 cats, and they love to dig their nails into the carpets.. They pick and scratch all the time. They are slowly ruining my carpet. How do I make them stop? I do not want to get them declawed, but I do trim their nail. They have 2 scratch posts, but still choose the carpet.. Any suggestions?

I have two one year old cats that I love dearly and dont want to take to a shelter. The problem is we just bought a new 3 piece leather sofa set and cant afford for the to scratch it all up. they already scratched the old sofa very badly. and i don’t want to get them declawd because its not humane and very expensive. If I get them a good scraching post will they still scratch my sofa? or what else can I do?? Need help please!

I bought her a scratching post and she won’t use it. I have tried showing it to her but I don’t think she knows what it is. Instead, she tears up the corners of the carpet.
I have tried the Scratch Not spray from wal mart and I am thoroughly convinced it does NOT work.
