My 6 month old cat will not use his scratching post at all! I’ve tried putting it in different areas of the house and putting catnip on it. Still, he will actually step over his scratching post to scratch the couch behind it. He also scratches beds, chairs, ect - anything except his post! My boyfriend says we should just declaw him, but I really don’t want to have to resort to that. We will be buying all new furniture soon, and I don’t want to have to worry about him scratching it all up. Any advice would be great!
I’ve heard from friends that the sisal scratch post has damaged their cat’s claws or caused the cat’s claws to become stuck when scratching. However, when shopping online for scratch posts i saw sisal scratch posts were a little bit more pricey and had better costumer reviews compared to the carpted scartch post.
i know it’s bad to take off their nails…anyone know of a good harmless product?
I bought my cat a scratching post. What can I do to get him to use this. The scratching post has a big fury mouse head on top of it. Thanks guys
Strange thing is me cat can’t stand catnip.
Where can I find a cheap cat scratching post? The cheapest at Petsmart is like for a 2 foot piece of wood with carpet on it.
i have tried treats, cat nip on and under it, and even showing her.
yup tried that. the nail clipping wasn’t fun, but i got it done. she isnt affected by catnip, dried, fresh, or liquid
she licks treats off of it and stares at me endlessly when i put treats under it
Don’t they realize that cats have claws before they get one? And get a scratching post? Seems 90% of cat ?’s on here are about cats claws. Noone thinks about this when they see a cute little kitten then get it on a whim & afterwards mutilate their feet!!
My cat needs a scratching post so he won’t tear up our furniture, and I’m on a budget.
What’s the cheapest way to go?
What is the best kind of scratching post for cats?
I just bought a 1-1/2 yr old cat the other day and he’s been clawing at my carpet and ripping it out next to my sons room.
Today I was going to buy a scratching post, but there are different kinds. Which do cats prefer?
1.) All carpet ( straight post )
2.) All carpet ( kitty condo )
3.) Carpet on parts, rope wrapped around other parts
4.) Other (please explain)
