Don't get one that is rug-like because once they get to worn then they will get all over your house. The ones that are made out of straw materials and cloths are better because the pieces are easily vacuumed and they have replaceable stands. There are some suggestions below.

Also the honeycomb cardboard toys are great as a multipurpose. Your cat can use it as a scratching post or a toy.

My cat likes the ones made from the heavy cardboard. When she shreds it, you buy a new insert to replace the used one.
It was under 10$

go to E-bay they have lots of these, there is one lady out there, I think the site is called allforpets, here is what i did..... I looked the cat condos/ scratchy post on e-bay and checked the ones that only had a few min. left in the bidding process, they have any size you want, but for a cat, the taller is always better, I got mine for 50.00 that included shipping, and its 6ft tall, good luck

couple of ideas that you could whip up in your own house and buy
1. find a 2-3 inch thick wood board for your kitten to scratch, make it rough so she'll want to scratch it
2. (not a smart idea) your back when you got an insane itch
3. card board
4. go to pet store/vet to talk about scratching
5. old wood furniture that you don't need ( like an old desk or chair)

Carpet pieces....the square pieces you can by at Wal-Mart, Dollar general, etc. It ranges between $5-10

cardboard....either boxes (free from grocery store) or cardboard based toys. It ranges between $10-20.

Sisal made toys price ranges between $20 +

check out this site to get some ideas.....

My cats (one has her claws the other one doesn't....she came that way when I asopted her) love all that I have named including my furniture. I clip the one cat's nails every other week...I clip the part of the nail that looks like a hook....so when she scratches the furniture when I am not around, it doesn't ruin it. The "hook" part of the nail is what destroys furniture and such.
