Cat scratching post/Furniture?
I want to make my 2 adult cats and 2 new kittens something they can all play on together. I know I can easily create some kitty furniture with some 2-by-4′s, cheap board, carpet, and rope but I was wondering if anyone has had a lot of success with any certain design or layout? And if you by chance know the dimensions or have a picture of it? Thank you!
I already have a smaller cat furniture toy, and my cats love it, I just want a bigger one. I KNOW MY cats will play on it. Please give me a model… Not just suggestions of high places… i know they like that.

Bravo! I’d suggest high platforms, little nooks to hide in and spring out, a sloping plank to run up (maybe with thin strips of wood glued across to grip), something to scratch on at full height and a flat scratching place too. And right at the top a lookout post
I’d start with a really solid base so there is no chance of it tipping over and build up something like this but in wood and with even more features http://www.cattreeplans.com/build_cat_furniture_p5.php or like this http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf35516793.tip.html but with your own ideas incorporated.
I’m hoping to make something similar for a neighbours cat run soon.
Cats love to sit in high places. They also like to hide. You could make something that is rather high and has a few compartments for them to hide in.
My family has never had any luck with kitty furniture and scratching posts, my cats unfortunately prefer scratching on furniture, or trees outside. However, if I were to make kitty furniture I would make hiding places, tall platforms, and use lots of playful toys.
Whatever design you go with, let me suggest you add a nice big corrugated cardboard scratching section, and lace it with a little catnip. My cats go wild for them. And it actually helped my kitty stop scratching my leather furniture completely!
well i don’t know about your cats but my cat LOVES to scratch are welcome mat we had to nail it to our porch steps so she can’t pull it off!
My cats have a HUGE cat house with toys, places to hide, high places…. you name it…. IT DOESN’T WORK , i tell you, they both LOVE scratching MY FURNITURE!!!!!!
cats are cats!!!!!! and will always be cats!!!!!!!! >^-^<
