De-clawing is definitely not the answer. It’s a cruel procedure and will make the cat totally defenseless to attacks from other animals if he goes out. It will also make it difficult for him to groom properly or clean himself properly. I would suggest maybe getting a few temporary rugs and putting them on the surfaces that he is scratching. That way, if he claws the rugs it won’t do any damage to the floor, and it will make less noise.
Maybe he’s doing it because he can’t reach up to scratch the cupboard door as he’s a bit tender and sore from the op, and scratching the floor is an easy alternative! Distracting him with stroking or gentle play might also help.
i hate to say this, but if it’s strickly an inside cat maybe you should declaw it
prob the same reason but cant do it the normal way due to injuries!
he is problely scared and ready to sratch what every is going to hurt it
He may be scratching to "sharpen" his nails. (actually, scratching is the way they remove the dead top layer of nail, just like you would file your nails.)
Beacuse his pelvis was broken, he may not be able to balence himself properly on his hind legs to scratch an upright surface like the cupboard door. So he scratches the floor.
Get a piece of cheap, stiff carpet and place it where he is scratching the floor. (you may have to put it carpet side down). Put him on the carpet and pull his claws gently over the carpet. He may start clawing the carpet instead of your floors.
As this wasn’t a problem before it may be temporary. In the interest of keeping the floor intact and your peace of mind try "Soft Paws". they are inexpensive nail covers that are glued on and stay for up to 6 weeks. Kitties seem to adapt well and if its a temporary problem, its a temporary solution.
