Cat owners with berber carpets & laminate flooring? ?
Ahh i am sure i will have the usual "if your so worried about furniture then dont get a cat" posts, but i am hoping to just get some honest answers here..And for the record since i got some hate mail after asking my bay window question, i would NEVER declaw a cat..I am just looking for some answers to some questions and some solutions to some things from people who have the same issues…
I have owned cats before and never had a problem with them clawing at the rug..I recently had an older cat which i was taking care of and he seemed to love my rugs in the bathroom not to scratch on, just do that nesting motion with his paws…
I have Berber carpets in my home and i realized its the same material as scratching posts..For those of you with berber carpets, do your cats seem attracted to your floor to use as a scatching post?
Our home was just put with new carpeting when we moved in. We have pergo flooring throughout the home and just the 2 bedrooms and part of the living room has carpeting…I was just curious if cats are attracted to using the berber carpet as a scratchign post…
Also, for any reason has your cat scratched up your lamianate flooring?

My cats do love the berber carpeting, but never laminate flooring. You should try one of those cheap corrugated cardboard scratching posts and put it on the carpeted area of your home. For the most part, my cats use that instead of the carpet. But the secret is catnip I think…I put catnip in the cardboard scratcher and they love it. Also some people don’t realize that cats prefer a vertical scratcher, some prefer a horizontal scratcher. Basically one lays on the ground and other sits upright. If hes a floor scratcher, you probably want to get a scratcher that lays on the ground.
We put plush berber carpet in our home and they scratch it more than any other carpet that we’ve had. We also have laminate flooring and they are fine on it. Laminate flooring is made to be durable so I haven’t found a scratch yet with 3 cats and 2 puppies.
Ha! I have Berber carpeting in my apartment and laminate flooring. The laminate flooring was already old, but the Berber carpet was brand new. Yes, some of my cats do like to scratch the floor, but I direct them to the scratchers when they do that AND I cut with sissors the little bits they pull up from the carpeting. It doesn’t leave a hole or anything!
Keep plenty of catnip on your scratchers so they prefer to go there and keep their nails trimmed. Mine have slowed way down on the carpets since I started the catnip on the scratchers thing. Much more preferable to cats. Hee!
I have berber carpet and don’t have any problem with my cats scratching at it. I do keep several types of scratching posts/pads in the carpeted rooms, so perhaps that’s why I haven’t had any problems.
The only issue at all is when they are due for a nail clipping. Their little paws start sticking to the carpet like velcro! That’s my cue to break out the clippers. lol
