Cat litter?
Is cat litter toxic for dogs if ingested?
We think our dog got into cat litter, and recently she has been pooping…a lot! She will wake up in the middle of the night (which is very unusual) panting and shaking and when we take her outside she goes poo like five times. It’s odd. This has happened every night now for a couple of days.
We also found a small pile of her vomit …its weird because she rarely gets sick like this. During the day, she doesen’t go as much, just about normal.

It depends on the litter. If you use clumping clay litter like most people do, then yes, it can be harmful if ingested.

As katrinam77uk said, wood pellets smell better and are safe. They’re also superior to clay in every other way: cheaper, lower maintenance (especially with a sifting litter box), flushable, and much friendlier to the environment. You don’t need to buy them at a pet store, though. You can just use pellet fuel (for pellet stoves), which is typically about 80% less expensive than the pellet litter sold in pet stores.
I suppose it can be. Most litters contain a wide variety of chemicals. Also, if it is a clumping litter, it could cause obstruction during digestion.
Best thing to do, is to prevent your dog from having ”litter box snacks”, by putting a baby gate between the dog & litter boxes, or if you have small dogs, you can put the litter boxes on a table out of their reach. For large dogs, the Booda litter boxes are wonderful, as the cat walks in, goes around a corner and that’s where the litter is. A large dog couldn’t reach the litter in a Booda box.
i got the wooden pellets from pet shop,,,it smells 10times better and is prob safer all round..the pellets turn to saw dust when wet..
Yes it is after the cat has used it. Cats have something toxic in their urine that can be harmful to your dog.
