arm and hammer super scoop!
I use baking soda
I use Baking Soda , that or .. Look at walmart or target , Cause near the cat Litter , they have stuff thats made for The litter Box to help Kill that smell.
And Tidy Cat makes "small spaces" Litter .. that works great Mixed with Baking soda .
in order to do that you have to get the scented stuff. pine wont work it the smell it too strong. i use fresh step cat litter for my just recently neutered male cat and it works wonders. another way to get rid of the smell if you have a male cat then get him fixed.
Both Arm and Hammer and Tidy Cat make clump litter that is great at keeping down the smell. Multi cat or small spaces is both good. I have six cats and you wouldn’t know it by the smell.
get arminhamer cat litter
Get rid o’ the litter once a week,
and baking soda
fresh step really works and try changing it at least once a week
As far as making it smell right again – you’ll have to find the source of the odor and soak it thoroughly with an enzyme cleanser/odor eliminator. If it’s carpet, you’ll have to soak the carpet, padding, and the flooring beneath – depending on how urine soaked the area is.
For litter, I recommend "Fresh Step Cedar." I have 5 cats and 3 litter boxes. I clean the boxes every 2 to 3 days, and there is no litter or ammonia odor in my home at all.
Hope that’s helpful. Your biggest battle will be finding and cleaning any areas outside the litter boxes that were stained.
And, if the littler boxes are a bit old, you might want to buy new ones, to help the kitties to use them willingly.
I have had great success with putting baking soda on the bottom of the litter box, it seems to absorb the ammonia smell and make the clumps of urine easier to scoop out, I also sometimes use Arm&Hammer cat litter deodorizer as it has a nice scent but plain works just as well. Scented litter doesnt do anything, at least in my experience and it just results in an even more revolting perfumed ammonia scent, I also dont like any clay litter as it seems to smell worse and can have negative effects on your cats health….
When you are done scooping your box, tilt it to one side and make all the litter go to that end and sprinkle baking soda on the bottom then tilt it the other way and sprinkle baking soda on the other side, put more on the spots they pee inside the box and put enough to cover the bottom but not too much just about 1/8 inch.
I found Swheat Scoop cat litter which is made with wheat to be better at supressing the smell and it clumps good and is safe for cats you can learn about Swheat scoop here… http://www.swheatscoop.com/
Its not the cat litter that smells, its the cat pee. Empty your cat box and clean scrub it with Dow Scrubbing Bubbles and a stiff brush. Don’t use bleach, kitty won’t like it. After the box is completely dry, sprinkle some baking soda in the bottom of the box. Use cat box liners to keep the ammonia from the pee in the liner and not the box. Of course, dipping daily helps too. If you don’t like that chore, then change litter out(liner and all) once a week. You can also use Fabreze on the floor and surrounding areas around the cat box. Wash or have cleaned all things fabric to remove lingering odors. Frequently wash or clean the fabrics in your home; especially those around the cat box. I have always had a cat and the cat box is (I’m embarrassed to say this) in my bedroom. However, people don’t know I even have a cat until she comes out because they don’t "smell" cat. Works for me!!
Good Luck!
I use tidy cats mupitual cat with crystals (orange lid) even if you dont have more than one. Then I buy Tidy Cat powder to put in the litter when u scoop out the clumps keeps it smelling good.
after you clean your litter box wash it with a vinegar and water solution this will neutralize the urine smell
i have four cats and everyother day i totally change there cat box i do not use any kind of scoopable cat litter I dump everything out scrub the bottom sprinkle baking soda and reput in the cat litter and never smell anything at all
Maybe teach your cat to go outside.
you could try scooping out the litter box daily. That works for me.
I use Wal-mart cheap scoop-able scented litter.
Nothing added.
Get a brand of litter called "Litter Select". It comes in a red bag and is available at most supermarkets. It costs a little more than clay litters, but you don’t have to change it very often (you just fish the turds out one a day). Its made out of silica crystals. The silica crystals absorb the urine (ammonia) smell, plus that brand comes with a pad to line the cat box with that absorbs even more urine.
