It's the dander and/or saliva, which, when dry, is lighter than air. The particles are so light and fine that they float and can be carried to any room in the house through heating and air conditioning vents. Kitty's are known for fastidious grooming so there's really nothing you can do about the dander. Unless your dad is willing to put up with the discomfort of allergies or take an allergy pill or shot, you probably shouldn't get a cat. Also, there's always the possibility that it may be kitty litter he's allergic to. I wish I had better news for you. Sorry.
