Cat 5 cable, what is an acceptable distance to run this cable?
We have a youth camp located in a rual country setting and the only available high speed internet available is a wireless off a local tower. What we need to do is to hook up several buildings (some are far far apart) AS a non-profit we cant afford more then one reciever (from wireless company) . Hope you might have an answer or suggestion..Thanks so much

You can run CAT5 up to 400 feet without having to be repeated by a hub or switch. Personally, I like to but a switch in after about 200 feet though.
cat5, as in ethernet?
Around 75m, in the specs it says maximum distance is 100m but it’s pretty unlikely it’ll reach 100m without the attenuation jumping.
Try using an ethernet repeater for distances of over 100m
I’ve never run it past 100m but using a hub would be a way to solve it. You could use a switch as well, but switches come with additional ethernet ports at the back of each box so it’s kind of a waste. But then again switches are pretty cheap these days and hubs are getting harder to find.
