Can wood shavings(the type used for small animals) be used as a cat litter?
I am out of cat litter and don’t have the money to buy more litter until Saturday(it’s Thursday). The litter box is already dirty(even though I have scooped, her urine smells pretty bad) and I feel so bad for her. I have a bag of shavings and was wondering if it would be alright to use this as a temporary litter until I can get some more.
If you have any suggestions, I would be very appreciative! Short of borrowing money, I don’t know what to do.

It should be fine to use temporarily. You can also use torn up newspapers, just dont use any paper that has that "glossy" coating on it (like department store ads). Both of these may not be too good about keeping the smell down, but you can help control cat box smells by sprinkling plain baking soda on the litter. Baking soda is very cheap and lasts quite a while. I find baking soda in the dollar store and only pay a dollar for a box.
Good luck, I hope this helps =^.^=
Wood shavings are fine. You can even shred newspaper as long as you remove the coloured advertising sections of it.
Yes, I think that would be fine. Shreded newspaper also works.
You shouldn’t do that because the wood doesn’t soak up or dry anything and with her urine, it will make the wood rot.
I don’t think so because the wood would absorb but would still stay moist, and it the cat’s urine would tie into the stench of the moist wood.
To keep the smell down, I use Arm and Hammer Cat Litter Deodorizer. It is moisture activated, and it smells like Febreze when there’s urine in it.
For temporary shavings, though, you can use newspaper as the urine dries up instead of staying trapped inside wood.
Good Luck
I wouldn’t. You could just dump it all out and put down paper towels and change them till you get litter.
We use the wood stove pellets for our litter – works well.
