Besides catnip, what else do cats truly adore?
I haven’t tried catnip yet since my kitten is only 3 months old, so I was wondering if there was anything else for him that he can enjoy?
Doesn’t have to be food-related!

Not all cats are sensitive to catnip, and for almost any cat, you will not know until your kitten is at least 6 months old.
Cats love to chase wadded up paper balls, and also the inexpensive furry mice. Several of my kittens love the crinkle balls, and feathers on a stick drive several of them into a frenzy. Some will also react to chasing the red dot from a laser pointer.
For food, the dried bonita tuna flakes is almost always a hit. A common brand is Catmandoo.
there are lots of ways to please a cat… it depends on the cat. most cats like to chase things on strings. also all cats pretty much have a spot where they LOVE to be petted. experiment! you’ll find what your cat loves!
you should try giving him the little plactic ring thats around the milk jugs. Cats love to play with that. Mine goes crazy. Also try shoelaces.
those plastic rings you get after you open a new gallon of milk.
my cats go NUTS for those things. they stock pile them in a "hidden corner" they think no body can find. and take them out all the time and flip them around. it is hilarious!
Mine like the fuzzy little fake mice. LoL. Really.
All kittens like to be snuggled, played with gently, rocked, stroked, groomed, and talked to. Hold him in your arms and look into his eyes as you rub his ears, cheeks, chin, and tummy gently. If he gives you a slow blink with his eyes, do the same to him. Get close to his face and do gentle sniffs at his nose. He will sniff back. It’s a way of exchanging information and saying hello. Letting a kitten know that it is truly loved is the beginning of a wonderful relationship.
Of course there’s always play time. A milk ring tied to the end of a strong piece of string or grosgrain ribbon is great fun, especially if you’re sitting up a few stairs and he’s at the bottom. Chase and capture the dancing ring!
Go to some of the web sites devoted to felines. I especially like
http://www.maxshouse.com for good all around info.
And even though he may be very interested in your tuna sandwich, don’t give him any. Stick with good quality wet cat food that has no grain, gluten, or rice in it.
Put a cardboard box in the floor for him. He’ll love it. Seriously. It will be something that he can both scratch and sleep in. My cats adore them, and I always make sure to have at least one around for them.
Fresh water.
Boxes are great, for a little kitten a shoe box is easier to get in and out of. Put a toy in the shoe box.
Take a ball of foil and crumple it into a ball, it is fun for them to play with and makes great noise. My kittens/cats will swat that ball up and down the kitchen floor.
There is this one cat toy at Walmart and probably most super stores that my cat adores the most. It’s this little bird that chirps when you hit it, about three bucks. He’s had it since a kitten and almost two years later he still loves it, when he can find it.
Open a plastic bag for him to get in. My cat gets so excited after I have been shopping and come home with one. Last night the teeny kitten went into the teeny blockbuster bag I brought home, he had a blast. Jumpin in and on it.
Have fun!
My cats love playing with this mouse that is tied to a fishing pole essentially. They love chasing it and grabbing it. I put on a sweater that had been in a drawer with moth balls. One of my cats was all over me. Another one of my cats is attracted to peppermint toothpaste.
One of my cats likes to play with this toy. It’s a big round circle plastic thing with a ball that runs around the perimeter and a cardboard center. She likes scratching on it, laying on it, and sending the ball around.
Mouse that make noise when tossed or played with, they love those.
Balls that make noise when they hit them.
milk, patting around their ears, toys(balls and fake mice),and they will show you what they like and do not like. Keep in mind you can not impose your will on a cat. Cats are very strong mentally. They are great.
my monsters (yes I call them that with much affection) love stuffed mice. I have about 2 dozen around the house (they hide them and can’t remember what they did with them) I have one cat that if you even think of touching his mouse, he will attack you. He carries it with him every chance he gets and the other kitties try and steal it. It’s like a game to them. Get some plastic golf balls and toss those around too. I have numerous golf balls around the house (no one plays in this house), even making a ball out of tin foil will entertain them. They are a crazy bunch but I wouldn’t trade them for the world…my kids, however, well that’s another story.
