It depends on their genes so you will never know until they actually grow. I only know the breeds that grow really big like the maine coon for example but for ones that stay small there isnt really a set trend
This is awful but I found out the other day (and I am most definitely now encouraging this by the way!) that in China and other parts of Asia they get kittens and keep them in a small container to stop them from growing properly. I think they call them something like jar cats but its disgusting behaviour and i cant believe they get away with it. They are torturing the kittens literally to keep them small! Its a small jar and they open it like twice a day to feed the kitten them shut it again so that it stunts the bone growth, yuck I want to put these people down!

No. The Singapura is the smallest cat (about 6 lbs when grown). Other smaller breeds (6-8 lbs) are Siamese, Orientals, Rexes (Cornish/Devon).

Hi Amanda,

The smallest breed of cat is the Singapura. At maturity they range from 5-8 pounds depending on their gender. Males are slightly heavier than the females.

The Teacup is a miniature cat which some Persian breeders are working with now. They range in weight at adulthood from 5-7 lbs depending on gender as well They are also referred to as "toy" cats.

You can read about "dwarf" cats here:
http://www.messybeast.com/dwarfcats.html

The other breed, while not diminuative is the Munchkin. These cats have very short legs and are the "Dachshunds" of the feline species.

As far as keeping kittens in small containers to stunt their growth, this is an urban legend. This horrible story was going around the internet years ago, about the "bonzai" kittens. There is no truth to this story at all.

Genetics, breeding or mutations are the contributing factors in creating and maintaining stature.

Hope this helps,
