Approximately how much does it cost to keep a cat as a pet?
I might be moving into a cat-friendly apartment next year.
I was wondering how much it would cost for food, kitty litter, toys, scratching post, and cat treats every month for a 3-7 year old cat (I would like to get one from a shelter). I know I could look up the prices but I’m not sure how much I would need.

It all depends. Cat stands can go from 30 dollars to 200. The smallest which is 30 dollars that I have seen it 2 feet tall and isnt that intresting to cats. But I spent around 30 dollars on cat toys and ended up loseing them all except for 2… (Which was about 10 dollars) Cat nip and a toy with a mouse attached to the end of it that squeeks when you move it around. So adding that up is around 40…
For food that depends as well. Walmart small bags is around 5 dollars of dry food. Same for some wet fook (i usually get friskys wet food in the pouches, 12 packs for 5 bucks). The dry food usually lasted me up to 3-4 weeks but the wet food lasted a week. So that would be 20 bucks per month just on wet food if you decide to get that. Inclueding both wet and dry cat food would be around 25 per month.
The litter also has different prices but some work better than others. Right now I am using a litter called Mimi’s litter (funny how my cats name is mimi haha!) and its 10 dollars but its suppose to last for a month and it works great!
So adding all that up –
40
25
10

$ 75 including toys with the food and litter.
$35 per month.
But I must remind you cats need their shots too. Mine costed me around 150 – 170 dollars and that isnt including getting her fixed. So it costs a lot in the begining but if you can afford that its pretty cheap taking care of a cat
Hope I helped!
Honestly it depends on how big or small the cat is on how much it eats, what you decide to feed it (brand wise), and the types of cat toys you want to get it. I’d suggest going to walmart.com and looking that stuff up. It’d be a lot easier than giving you an approximate number on how much it’d cost… because honestly, it varies. I have 2 cats, they cost me $20 a week in cat food and cat litter alone.
No more than $20.00 per month
